upgrading 4k to 5 internal 500 error

Post upgrading 4k to 5 internal 500 error 
Well, i have a version4 cart, and a version 5 cart up and running, i am trying to upgrade the 4k to 5, with no success.

ive read reams, everything seems to be ok, the 'FTP5.cgi' file install worked before...

my perl location line in the upgrade file includes the starting '!', but i have also tried it without...DO I UNCOMMENT THE FIRST LINE in the CGI file? i never with ftp5.cgi, but again, i have tried this...
my file is set to 755....

my cart is currently not in cgi-bin, but i have moved a copy their, and then tried the file, still no joy......

what may i be missing here please?

solved: binary mode was the culprit.....

my products do not seem to be showing? can anyone help? usually got a faster response than this before?

doesnt matter which product file i use, and my products are in the agora db, i can see them through the manager. The search results bars show up, and say the correct number of product listings, but they dont actually show on the page, html or images.

I never run the updater...
Also, if you can install outside the cgi-bin it is a little easier to set up.

Install a fresh copy of v5.
Set up manager with the Primary/Core settings, Store Design managers, Store Template manager
by just clicking the submit buttons in each of the manager. Go to Upgrade Modules manager, make sure everything is up to date.
Then, you can transfer the data.file from the v4 store, and the header/footers.

its ok.....i paniced a little....but i have managed to sort everything.....the updater isnt so bad, as long as you know all the important agora files involved.

my products seemed to fix themselves when i made some changes in manager....not sure what i did...lol.

Just hitting the submit buttons in the Primary/Core settings, Store Design managers, Store Template managers reset the settings and things begin to work again.
